North West Physio Lutwyche’s new mum and bubs Pilates class is perfect for supporting new mums on their post-partum journey.
This class is about getting back into shape and nurturing your overall well-being all while enjoying quality time with your little one.
Why Mum and Bub Pilates is beneficial post-partum
Our mum and bubs Pilates class at North West Physio Lutwyche is designed to support new mothers as they ease back into fitness and find balance in their post-partum journey.
Physical benefits:
This class combines weights, mat exercises, and Pilates reformer routines to offer a gentle, low-impact workout. It focuses on areas that need extra attention after childbirth, such as core strength, glute activation, and shoulder and neck mobility.
Mental benefits:
Participating in our class helps reduce the stress of fitting a workout around your baby’s schedule and provides valuable social support, alleviating the isolation often felt during maternity leave.
Mum and bub exercise classes: safety first
We prioritise your safety and well-being. If you’ve experienced complications during labour, we recommend booking an initial consultation with our exercise physiologist, Amara, before joining the class.
In some cases, consulting with a women’s health Physiotherapist specialising in pelvic floor health may be beneficial. Based on individual recovery, light walking and stretching are generally recommended up until six weeks post-partum or longer.
Our classes can be adjusted for different levels of strength and recovery, including modifications for those who have had a C-section or other complications. Core strength and scar tissue care are especially important for those recovering from a C-section.
Mums and bubs Pilates: bringing your baby
Our classes are designed with both mums and their little ones in mind. Babies are encouraged to play together in the centre of the room, ensuring they are always within sight and feel special while you work out. You can bring them in a capsule or pram, and we provide private areas for nappy changes and feeding.
Consulting healthcare professionals
Before starting any post-partum exercise routine, consulting with your GP or healthcare provider is essential. Women’s health physiotherapists typically recommend check-ups at 3, 6, and 12 weeks post-partum to ensure a safe return to exercise. This step helps tailor your activity plan to your unique recovery needs.
Mums and bubs Pilates Brisbane: what to expect in class
In a typical mums and bubs Pilates reformer class, you can expect a warm-up with bodyweight exercises and low-intensity reformer work. The class progresses through a circuit of free weights, mat exercises, and reformer Pilates. Each session is designed to cater to different stages of post-partum recovery, ensuring you get the most out of your workout.
Meet our expert instructor Amara
Amara, our dedicated exercise physiologist, leads the mums and bubs classes. With three years of practice in exercise physiology and specialised training in Post-partum Return to Exercise, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to support your post-partum fitness journey.
