Exercise Physiology vs Physiotherapy

Given Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists have similar treatment goals (i.e we want to get you better!) and both professions work across a varied scope of practice – it’s natural that confusion can arise!

We delve into the main differences below:

PHYSIOTHERAPISTS EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGISTS
Physiotherapists assess, diagnose and treat a range of injuries, diseases, disabilities and pain.

Physiotherapists utilise a range of modalities to assist with your recovery, including, massage, dry needling, hydrotherapy and prescribing tailored exercises.

Exercise Physiologists are specialists at managing and treating clients using clinical exercise intervention and exercise programs.

Their ability to select the most safe, effective exercise for you, along with timely progressions of your exercise regime is second to none.

Who can Benefit from Exercise Physiology?

People of all ages and physical abilities can benefit from seeing one of our accredited Exercise Physiologists in Brisbane.

  • Musculoskeletal Injury Rehab
Exercise Physiologists identify and address any anatomical imbalances or biomechanical asymmetries to ensure full recovery from your injury and reduce the risk of future problems.
  • Post-Surgical Rehab
One of the most integral parts of recovering from a musculoskeletal injury/surgery is returning your strength, endurance and flexibility to pre-injury levels. In doing so, our Exercise Physiologists will take your specialist’s recommended protocol into consideration to ensure a safe, timely rehab.
  • Sporting Athletes
Research supports the use of strength and conditioning techniques to enhance exercise performance, and our Exercise Physiologists will identify technique errors and abnormalities that require addressing.
  • NDIS & DVA-funded
Clients with chronic injuries and disabilities find regular exercise intervention is key to maintaining and improving their overall quality of life, including their physical and mental health.
