Physiotherapy for veterans, covered by DVA

At North West Physio, we see DVA clients across Brisbane. If you hold a Gold Card or a White Card for an accepted condition, you may be eligible to access physiotherapy with no out-of-pocket cost. We bill DVA directly, so you do not have to pay on the day or manage the paperwork.

Whether you are managing a service-related injury, rebuilding strength after surgery, or dealing with a condition that has been wearing you down, our team will work with you toward the outcomes that matter most in your day-to-day life.

Conditions we commonly treat

  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Traumatic and service-related injuries
  • Chronic pain and complex conditions including chronic post-traumatic stress-related physical symptoms
  • Age-related degenerative conditions

Many veterans have been carrying service-related conditions for years before seeking treatment. Whether your injury is recent or longstanding, we will meet you where you are and focus on what will make the most practical difference to how you move and how you live.

Treatments and interventions:

  • Hands-on manual therapy
  • Exercise programs
  • Dry needling for pain relief and improved range of motion
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation programs

Aids and appliances prescription through the DVA Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP).

Gold Card vs White Card DVA Cover

DVA Gold Card holders can access physiotherapy for clinically necessary conditions, while White Card holders can access it only for accepted conditions. A referral is generally required for both types of card holders, and the usual 12-session or 1-year treatment cycle applies except for TPI Gold Card physiotherapy.

How to Access DVA Physiotherapy at North West Physio

    Check Your Card Type.

Confirm whether you hold a DVA Gold Card or White Card, and, for White Card holders, that the condition you want treated is an accepted service-related condition.

Most DVA clients need a GP referral before their first physiotherapy appointment. A standard DVA treatment cycle covers 12 sessions, after which a new referral is required. Gold Card holders should confirm their specific entitlements with their GP or DVA directly.

DVA Physiotherapy FAQs

Do I need to pay for DVA physiotherapy?

No. If you hold a Gold Card or a White Card for an accepted condition, our clinic will bill the DVA.

Do I need a referral for DVA physiotherapy?

In most cases, yes. DVA clients generally need a GP referral before beginning physiotherapy. The referral specifies the condition being treated and covers a standard treatment cycle of 12 sessions. Gold Card holders may have different entitlements, so it is worth confirming with your GP or DVA directly before you book.

How many DVA physiotherapy sessions can I have?

A standard DVA treatment cycle covers 12 sessions. When you reach your 12th appointment, your physio will write a summary letter to your GP so a new referral can be issued. There is no set limit on the number of referral cycles you can have, and there is no limit on the number of different service types you can access.

What does DVA physiotherapy cost?

For eligible Gold Card and White Card holders, there is generally no out-of-pocket cost for approved treatment. North West Physio bills DVA directly, so you do not need to pay upfront or manage your own reimbursement.

What is the difference between a Gold Card and a White Card for physiotherapy?

A DVA Gold Card generally entitles holders to a broad range of physiotherapy services for any condition, regardless of whether it is service-related. A White Card entitles holders to physiotherapy for conditions that DVA has accepted as service-related. If you are a White Card holder, confirm that your condition is covered before booking.
