Pilates provides a multitude of benefits that engage and challenge both mind and body.
Pilates accommodates all individuals by focusing on movement control, core stability, postural awareness, breathing control, and pelvic floor activation. Classes incorporate a combination of:
- Resistance training with light weights, pilates rings and elasticised bands to improve your strength in your upper and lower body
- Postural training to improve your body awareness
- Pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscle training
- Breathing control and relaxation to facilitate body-mind conditioning
With its many class variations, there’s something for everyone – whether you prefer an all-over body burn or gentle pregnancy classes.

Mat-based Pilates
Mat-based Pilates classes are perfect for individuals looking to build core strength, improve flexibility, and enhance overall body awareness.
At North West Physiotherapy Nundah clinic our classes are small (6-7 individuals) and run by a Physiotherapist to ensure that injuries/health conditions are accounted for and exercises are modified appropriately.

Prenatal Pilates
Our Prenatal Pilates classes are designed, in line with evidence-based practice to help you maintain your strength throughout your pregnancy, to lower the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence and medical complications i.e. gestational diabetes, manage your aches and pains, and prepare your body for labour and delivery.
Physical activity during pregnancy is essential to keep you and bub healthy and well. Our classes are small (3-4 people) to support each mother on their pregnancy journey.
Mum’s and Bub’s Pilates
Congratulations on the recent arrival of your baby!
Mat-work Pilates is a great exercise to support and rehabilitate your body post-partum. It is a low-impact exercise that focuses on regaining your core strength, improving body awareness and helping with overall body conditioning.
A Women’s Health Physiotherapist runs our classes and thus also incorporates pelvic floor activation and relaxation, exercises focused on abdominal separation, and stretching/trigger point release to assist with soreness that comes with feeding/carrying/parenting an ever-growing bub.
You must ensure you have had clearance from your obstetrician/midwife/GP to start exercise. You need to book a pre-assessment with our Women’s Health Physiotherapist before commencing class.
Benefits of Pilates
We do require pre-assessments to be completed with a physiotherapist prior to commencing any class. This can be booked online or by phoning the clinic. Our friendly receptionists will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
