How to Make Your Physio Exercise a Habit

Just like brushing your teeth or eating a meal, keeping up with your physio treatment is an important part of your daily routine.

If you find you’re forgetful, the team at North West Physiotherapy have come up with some suggestions on how to make your physio exercises a habit and incorporate them into your everyday activities.

Why Should You Make Your Physio Exercises a Habit?

Physio exercises are just as important to your normal routine as eating or watching your favourite TV show.

  • Exercise will assist in reducing the need for ongoing treatment as well as provide pain relief between treatments.
  • Some conditions will not resolve well without retraining the muscles involved to fire in the correct pattern and with the correct strength in the muscle groups.

How Often Should You Do Your Exercises?

It’s always best to listen to the advice of your physio but generally, exercises should initially be performed 2-3 times per day for 5 minutes each time. This amount of repetition allows the muscles to develop the “memory” they need to perform their role.

Later in the treatment process, it is normal for exercises to be only performed daily and then usually 3 times per week (15 minutes each time) for the longer term.

Tip: Try to associate  your exercises with an existing habit such as  whenever you go to the gym or when you are about to have a meal.

How Our Physitrac App Can Help

North West Physio suggest the Physitrac exercise app for our clients. The app will detail exactly how many repetitions and how often you should perform your exercise – and yes it can be set to send you reminders as well!
