Are you wondering whether Pilates is still covered by private health insurance?
Here at North West Physiotherapy we are pleased to advise that you are still eligible for a rebate, however, the class might be called something different than what you’ve been used to.
Changes to Pilates Private Health Rebates 2019
As of 1 April 2019, there have been some Federal Government reforms to natural therapy rebates, specifically what you can and can’t claim on your private health insurance.
When these reforms were first announced they did not differentiate between non-evidence based therapies, and those prescribed by physiotherapists.
So, while your health funds may have advised that rebates for Pilates would no longer be available, it’s worth checking the fine print as exceptions do apply!
Specifically, if your 1:1 or group exercise session is conducted by a physiotherapist, and tailored to your specific health conditions, most private health funds will still offer the rebates.
The Australian Physiotherapy Association was working hard behind the scenes for several months to ensure that these rebates remained in place, however, physios cannot call them Pilates classes anymore.
