Step into North West Physio Everton Park and meet the skilled professionals at our core.
Today, we’re excited to introduce Tori Franczak, our new Senior Exercise Physiologist!
Get to know her below.
What services do you offer?
I treat a range of pathologies, including musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular rehabilitation. I have a strong background in the management of osteoporosis/osteopenia and pre and post-natal exercise prescription to manage physiological symptoms and assist in the body’s recovery from childbirth.
In conjunction with rehabilitation, I thoroughly enjoy working with athletes and high-performance clients recovering from injury.
What does an exercise physiologist do?
You have heard it before: exercise IS medicine! An Exercise Physiologist provides rehabilitation and management of non-communicable diseases (diseases not caused by infection). EPs treat both acute and chronic conditions – at the onset of injury or disease state within the body.
We are skilled at utilising exercise to treat patients- this can either be in an acute phase or a chronic, ongoing capacity. Oftentimes, we treat clients for the long term with underlying health conditions that affect either the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular or neurological systems.
Many chronic pathologies are managed best through exercise prescription, such as Parkinson’s Disease, hypertension, arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, chronic (non-acute) musculoskeletal issues… all the way to mental health (PTSD, depression, anxiety) and metabolic and musculoskeletal care for pre and post natal women.
What are your qualifications and skills, and how many years of experience do you have under your belt?
I graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2020 with a four-year bachelor’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology. Prior to this, I graduated from the University of Queensland with a four-year dual degree in Communications and Sociology.
I currently have four years of experience as an allied health professional and am a Senior Exercise Physiologist!
My other qualifications include:
- Polestar Pilates instructor with comprehensive rehabilitation on all Pilates equipment
- practitioner for Parkinson’s Disease Warrior
- strength and conditioning coach
- highly skilled in the management of bone density for osteoporosis and osteopenia, as well as pre and post-natal exercise.
What do you love most about working at North West Physio Everton Park?
North West is an incredibly professional outfit, with a big pool of talented healthcare professionals and very excitingly, a growing Exercise Physiology department. No two clients are the same, which makes it a dynamic and rewarding workplace.
I am excited and honoured to be a part of NWP’s fast-approaching expansion and development and to know how we can scale our exceptional services to our clients.
What do you love most about being an exercise physiologist?
I love being a part of someone’s weekly life to implement positive change. Having the ability to change a client’s perspectives on movement through education is the forefront of buy-in for any client looking to improve their health and well-being.
I am so lucky to work in a field where I can implement this daily. Building relationships with clients and seeing results in their physical and mental health through exercise is beyond rewarding.
How can clients benefit from visiting an exercise physiologist?
It’s a long list! Although exercise physiology is still a relatively new discipline in allied health, it almost exclusively uses exercise as the modality to increase a person’s physical and physiological condition.
Certain pathologies are most effectively treated through movement for multiple reasons. Cardiovascular and metabolic conditions, in particular, require a minimal amount of curated, tailored exercise per week to manage a person’s condition. In some ways it’s similar to when prescribing medication you also consider individual dose responses, intolerances etc.
Individuals who require ongoing management of chronic conditions require a dose-dependent relationship with exercise under the guidance and supervision of an exercise physiologist. Whether you are returning from injury or managing diabetes, Parkinson’s, or diagnosed osteoporosis or osteopenia, managing your mental health – exercise physiology is for you to support your goals and well-being ongoing and for life.
Interesting facts about Tori
Fun fact: I’m Canadian! I’ve been living in Brisbane for 8 years and recently married an Australian in November last year in Byron Bay.
I used to play basketball for Canada before I sustained bilateral ACL and meniscal tears – this led me to work with athletes and rehabilitation from sports injuries and pathologies.
Ironically, being Canadian, I cannot ski (and definitely cannot snowboard), but when I moved to Brisbane, I learned to surf and enjoy getting up the coast every chance I get!
When I’m not working or at the gym, you’ll find me hanging out on the beach with my cattle dog, Millie, and enjoying an almond flat white 🙂
